THE FUCK THEM WAITING ROOM™
The Waiting Room Field Guide
You’ve said your piece. Now come back to yourself. This guide is a reminder to stop doing another adult’s part and choose your next step using what actually happens.
State → Ask → Observe → Decide
- State: Name the relevant facts and your experience. Separate impact from guesses about intent.
- Ask: Make a specific request when there is something to ask. Let the other person answer.
- Observe: Notice words, actions, follow-through, and patterns. Put your attention back into your own life.
- Decide: Choose what you will do with the information you have. You don’t have to wait indefinitely.
Notes from reception
- You may feel everything. You do not have to send everything.
- A delayed reply is a fact. Its motive may still be unknown.
- Draft outside the message box before deciding whether to send.
- A boundary guides your choices; it does not guarantee someone else’s.
- Connection, acknowledgment, and apologies can matter. Evaluate separately whether the underlying issue is being repaired.
- One sentence can help. It isn’t a rule or a guarantee of understanding.
Your next five minutes
What have I already said or asked? What response or action would give me useful information? What can I do for myself now? When will I review my next step?
Sip. Don’t Send. A pause before sending, not a prohibition on necessary communication. Respond to genuine repair, take protective action when needed, and choose your own timing.
